Registration with the National Health Service and choice / change of family doctor and pediatrician
The family doctor and pediatrician are professionals who deal with primary care (general medical examination, prescription of drugs, specialist visits for laboratory or diagnostic tests ..)
You can choose the family doctor and pediatrician when you register with the National Health Service (SSN) at the Local Health Authority (ASL) of residence or where you live.
Each person registered with the SSN has the right to choose a family doctor.
The pediatrician can be maintained for up to 14 years or up to 16 years in particular cases.
You can register with the National Health Service (SSN) if you have a residence permit. The choice of doctor has validity related to the duration of the residence permit.
If you do not have a residence permit (STP and ENI) you can still have free general medical assistance through the institution of occasional visits to the office of a family doctor or to the dedicated clinics of the health authorities (ASL).
At the time of your choice you will be given information that you will also find on the ASL website on where and when the doctor / pediatrician makes outpatient visits, at what number you can call him, how to have a home visit and if you can contact other doctors of his group in his absence.
Change of family doctor and pediatrician
If you no longer trust your doctor / pediatrician, you can change it in the following ways:
- on the OpenToscana portal by accessing the MEDICAL CHANGE service
- with the Toscana Salute App

- by consulting the specific other methods (email, health registry offices) on the websites of the Health Authorities
